STAR Reader is a program that we use to periodically test our students to determine their current reading level. We test several times per year because it is our hope that our students' reading levels are consistently growing and changing. This assessment can also show us a student's strengths and weaknesses so that we can personalize their reading instruction as needed.
We use our STAR results to help students get books that are at their appropriate level. The STAR gives us a range that each student performs best at, and we use that to build their growth over time. Students select books, read them, and then use the Accelerated Reader program to test over the books they read. We can use their scores to know if they understood the book they read, or not. We can then work with each child to maximize his or her results.
Accelerated Reader and STAR work together to help our children become good readers. Reading is the foundation for all other academic areas, and we value the importance of a great foundation in this area.
